Save the Date! Applegate, Kerr and Levin CD49 Candidate Forum

  • 1234 North Santa Fe Avenue Vista, CA, 92083 United States

Hosted by the  Democratic Club of Vista

Meet the 3 Democrats; Doug Applegate, Paul Kerr and Mike Levin, who are going to put Issa out of a job. We will have a moderator from The League of Women Voters ask questions submitted by the community. Make sure that you sign up for a ticket via the Eventbrite link!

This is the structure for the Q&A:

1. In a randomly determined order, each candidate will be given 2 minutes to make an opening statement.

2. The LWV moderator will ask questions selected from written questions submitted by the audience. The questions will be screened to avoid duplication, to insure a range of topics and issues, and to avoid questions that are not pertinent to the issues. The candidates will have one minute each to respond to each question. If a question is directed toward one candidate, he/she will answer first and the others will be allowed equal time to speak if they wish.

3. Each candidate will make a closing statement of no more than 1 minute.

Indivisible Day of Action - #KillTheBill

  • Senator Feinstein's San Diego Office

On Tuesday, July 18th, our whole national network will be showing up together to say that TrumpCare would hurt our friends, our families, and our country--and we'll remember this vote. Join us as we show constituent power and support Senators Feinstein and Harris as they continue the fight against the repeal of the ACA.

We know you are exhausted! We are all are. But this is the time that we have to stand up and fight for ALL which includes CHILDREN, SENIORS, POOR and the DISABLED. OUR FINAL BIG PUSH: Every Indivisible Chapter in the nation, along with other progressive groups, will be rallying at every Senate District Office in every state.

Plans are still in development, but we will meet outside of Feinstein's office from noon to 12:30ish, then walk over to Harris' office. We will be inviting the staff of Feinstein and Harris to come outside to hear from constituents about the dire effects of this heartless health care bill.

Bring your signs, personal health care stories, American flags, and your voices! Constituent comment forms will be available to fill out while we are there. However, if you'd like to write one up in advance please include your name, address with ZIP code, phone, and email info, along with your comments and concerns. Thank you!!

Tuesday Rally 10:00 a.m. - "Happy Birthday, Medicare and Medicaid!"

  • Darrell Issa's Vista Office

Our rallies will begin at the regular time - 10:00 AM until further notice.

We will be joined by folks from the California Alliance for Retired Americans, an Organization that advocates with and for retired people, primarily around health care issues. Every year, their organization throws birthday parties to celebrate Medicare and Medicaid, and this time they're bringing the party to the sidewalk with us--complete with a big card and a cake. We know how much Mr. Issa likes cake!

You will get to hear some of their personal stories about Medicare and Medicaid. Please help me welcome them!

Bust out your health care signs and t-shirts. The timing couldn't be better for us to celebrate the success of Medicare and Medicaid, with the Senate poised to try again next week to pass a repeal of the ACA. Let's send a message to Mr. Issa that we remember his shameful vote in the House, and we will continue to hold him accountable for putting tens of thousands of constituents at risk with that vote.

Impeachment March - San Diego

  • San Diego County Administration Center

On Sunday, July 2nd, we march to demand Congress DO THEIR JOB and remove Trump from The White House.

Donald Trump has been in violation of the Constitution from the day he was sworn into the office of President. We cannot abide a Congress that turns a blind eye to the constitutional breaches of our Commander in Chief. We demand that Congress does its job and commences with impeachment proceedings immediately.Donald Trump’s extreme disregard for the Constitution is a profound subversion of the Office of the President. Neither do we feel our country is in safe nor able hands, and we will not quietly ride out a tenure that threatens our democracy and way of life. We demand that Congress stop enabling President Trump through an embarrassing and potentially catastrophic charade of normalcy. The future of American Democracy rests in their hands.

Tuesday Rally - Your American Dream

  • Rep Darrell Issa's Office

Please join us this Tuesday.  Since we are not having a rally on 4th of July, the rally this week will focus on our American dream. That of course includes health care. We will have special guests -- some of whom are flying in from DC-- who are fighting Issa about the rights of individuals to hold patents. Who knew Issa was taking big money from corporations that oppose individuals holding patents?? So much for their American dream! Come to the rally and tell us YOUR American dream.

DETAILS

  1. This Tuesday, we are again holding our rally across the street from Rep Issa's office. This may or may not be permanent.
  2. We will have ACLU observers at this rally and at all future rallies. They are there to observe, not interact with us. Please respect that.
  3. Please avoid crossing the street, or going out into the street to take pictures! We do have some photographers who may be in the street, but please don't do it yourselves. You can find their photos on Indivisible49.com
  4. If for some reason you do need to cross the street, please go to a Peace Patrol member in a safety vest. They will be escorting people across the street.

PARKING

  1. Pastor Matthew Palm of Hope Church at 1755 Thibodo Rd offers the parking lot to promote public safety (he recognizes the danger of people parking illegally on Thibodo Rd), and emphasized that the church does not take sides in politics.
  2. If you are not parking at the church, please park on the street vs Issa's parking lot.
  3. If you have with disabilities or mobility problems we are holding 6 parking spots on the event side of the street for you. We have marked those spots with orange buckets. Look for someone with a safety vest and they will help you!
  4. If you park on Thibodo Rd, be sure your car is not blocking the traffic lane. If you do, you'll probably get a ticket.
  5. Please park away from the building on both sides of the street.

Tuesday Rally - "The Sound of Silence"

  • Rep Darrell Issa's Office

Issa's silent on health care, he's silent about Russia, but he mouths off about his constituents? It sounds like he underestimates us, doesn't it?

Please join us this Tuesday and we'll show him that we're not going away any time soon.  With our theme of "The Sound of Silence," you can adorn your sign with a picture of Issa. We're providing the duct tape for you to use to cover his mouth! (We'll also have painter's tape if you don't want to ruin your picture :)

Margaret has a couple of new songs for us. They are to the tunes of "Imagine" by John Lennon and "Leaving on a Jet Plane" originally by PP&M. If you don't know the tunes, feel free to listen to them before you come.

Tuesday Rally - Country over Party (again!)

  • Rep. Darrell Issa's office

Wear your red, white and blue. Ellen will have flags for us all. Issa needs to be reminded that checks and balances are a key component of our government (read below about an encounter this past week between a rally participant and Issa at Costco). So while we had a Country over Party theme before, clearly he didn't hear us. Let's do it again!

This is the beginning of vacations, so if you're in town, please join us. Our group has been a bit smaller these past 2 weeks, and we certainly don't want Issa to think we are not as passionate as we were before.  (Issa staffers, as you read this, know we are still just as passionate as always!)

Here's what happened when one of our rally participants ran into Darrell Issa at the Vista Costco this week. In his words:

I rounded an aisle corner and there was Darrell Issa walking toward me, looking very incognito, dressed in black slacks and black t-shirt.  No one else seemed to recognize him.

I said, “Congressman!”

He responded with a big smile and a “Hi, how are you?”

I said, “I really think you should distance yourself from that loser.”

He didn’t like that.

He replied, “I’m already a separate branch of government,” and walked away.

Clearly, Issa doesn't get it!

Will you join us on Tues, June 13?

Yes, I'll be there!

Can you help? If so, please sign up here. Thank you!

With a theme of "Finding your Activism," you will get an update on what's going on in Indivisible 49 and the positive results of our activism (hint: Issa on the roof is but one example). Then, we'll break out into several sessions designed to help you up your activism game, learning from the best:

Our own Ellen Montanari will address Voter Engagement, a discussion around influencing our neighbors who may be not paying enough attention, or may be on the fence, about Issa.

Sharon Leib, who has had several letters to the editor published in the LA Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune and various other papers will take you through Write Back @You, so you can learn how to make your letters and other outreach effective.

Greg Orth will host Who's Your Buddy, so we can get to know fellow activists in our neighborhoods.

Ryan Ewig, our Twitter and Facebook guru, hosts Social Media Engagement Beyond Facebook, to tell us how to share our stories, particularly on Twitter -- the medium of choice for journalists and influencers.

And of course, snacks!

People's Climate March - San Diego

    • Waterfront Park

Over two years ago ~1,500 San Diegans took to the streets in solidarity with 400,000 in New York demanding action on climate change. Workers, students, human rights leaders, frontline communities, indigenous heroes: we acted together to send a message so powerful and unified the world could not ignore it. President Obama listened, and began to lead.

Today, Donald Trump’s election threatens the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families. Facing the threat of a President who denies the reality of climate change, and openly attacks women, people of color, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities, LGBTQ people, workers, and so many more, we need to stand up and take action to protect everything and everyone we love.

On April 29, just before the 100th day of the Trump administration, the people will come together for a massive march in Washington, D.C., and once again, we will be marching in San Diego. We will march for our families, air, water, and land. We will march for clean energy jobs and climate justice. We will march for our communities and the people we love. And we will be louder and stronger than ever before.

    STAND WITH US!

We strongly encourage everyone to walk, ride a bike, use public transit, or carpool, and you can find detailed information about transportation options here.

    San Diego Tax March

    • pin Show Map San Diego County Administration Center

Join thousands of San Diegans on Saturday, April 15th, to protest Donald Trump and his family's numerous conflicts-of-interest. As we protest Trump, we also acknowledge that Trump's conflicts are a symptom of a deeper problem in our tax structure, and the structure of our economy as-a-whole; that ultra-wealthy and profitable corporations manipulate our tax structure and the gloabal financial markets to get out of paying taxes, and keep most of their profits for themselves or their wealthy investors. This design-flaw in our economy results in wealth for the richest 1% , and hardship and inequality for the remaining 99%. This status quo is no longer acceptable.
