“We are grieving with Parkland. But we are not powerless.” - Barak Obama

After a heart-wrenching week - with the Parkland school shooting, failed DACA negotiations, and the Senate voting down protections for the disabled - it's more important than ever for us to resist. We can stay positive and overcome the efforts of the Trump administration and GOP to undermine our democracy. As Jeff Cours wrote:
Here's a lovely thing to say:
Issa will soon go away!

But now please pay attention, please!,
to California's primaries:
fighting over Ds just may
bring two Rs election day!

Our Democracy is battered,
our checks and balances are tattered,
and Trump might fire or reassign
Mueller or Rod Rosenstein.

We need you now! The gauntlet's thrown!
Door to door! On the phone!
As Seuss once said (with better skill):
if you don't change things, no-one will.

Summary of Indivisible 49 Member Meeting last Sunday:
Thanks to all who joined us, and to our speakers for an informative update on the state of the 49th district congressional race, and our next steps.

Amanda Mascia, member of the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee, did an excellent job overviewing the (complicated) process for endorsing candidates, including what will happen at the February State Democratic Convention. She also explained the makeup of the delegates prior to and during the convention.

Flip the 49th! Neighbors in Action is conducting a poll over the next couple weeks using a national polling company to assess the standing of the 49th district democratic candidates. We'll keep you posted once the results come in.

There is a viability forum with the 49th district democratic candidates on March 2nd that will cover issues, results of the poll and candidate discussion of their viability.

Gus Hawthorn, Greg Orth, Cipriano Vargas and Allison Stratton gave examples of phone banking and canvassing. We need your help to reach our goal to make calls and knock on doors. One of the attendees just did her first phone banking last week, and was a pro by the end of her time slot. There is also volunteer work available at the Flip the 49th! Neighbors in Action office. Contact them to get more information and to sign up.

William Bondashu, a former congressional aide, emphasized the importance of doing whatever we can do, despite the efforts of Trump and the GOP to overwhelm us and prevent us from fighting back. He reminded us to be ready to hit the streets if Trump tries to stop the Mueller investigation. Sign up here to take action if Trump fires Rosenstein or Mueller. Our democracy depends on us!

Special thanks to Jeff Cours for his inspiring closing remarks at the meeting, which are posted here
