Upcoming Events
Tuesday, September 26, 10:00 a.m.: Weekly Rally at Issa's Vista Office - Our Theme: Money, Money, Money
1800 Thibodo Rd., #310, Vista, CA

NPR is covering the rally this week, so we'd like to have an extra big crowd. Let's tell Darrell Issa that we want him to vote for bills that work for his constituents - not for bills (Graham-Cassidy) that line his pockets and those of his super-rich friends. We are tired of money being used so blatantly to buy votes in Congress. Darrell Issa needs to stand up for his CONSTITUENTS not his DONORS! Please RSVP here.

Thursday, September 28, 5:00 p.m.: Weekly Encinitas Unity Issa Street Corner Protest
At the corner of El Camino Real and Encinitas Blvd. Please join our lively weekly protest and show your support! For more information, check encinitasunity.com.

Legislative Update

The House schedule for upcoming votes this week seems fairly tame, perhaps leaving room for a possible (hopefully not!) ram-through of the Senate’s Graham-Cassidy ACA repeal.

In addition to continued protests and/or calls to defeat ACA repeal, the following House bills being considered seem worth supporting:

H.R. 2061 – North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act of 2017
(Issa is one of 14 bipartisan co-sponsors that include 8 Dems)
The bill reauthorizes the North Korean Human Rights Act of 2004, which seeks to promote human rights in North Korea, provide access to information its citizens, assist North Koreans in need, and protect refugees.

H.R. ____ – Disaster Tax Relief and Airport and Airway Extension Act of 2017
On top of over $15 billion in disaster funding that was enacted on September 8, this new bill will provide additional relief for victims of Hurricane Irma, Harvey, and Maria (for Puerto Rico!), and includes targeted tax relief and temporary extensions of health programs within Ways and Means jurisdiction.

S. 1141 – Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017
To ensure that the United States promotes the meaningful participation of women in mediation and negotiation processes seeking to prevent, mitigate, or resolve violent conflict.

Other Updates

Darrell Issa told the San Diego Union-Tribune this week that he's voting NO on the DREAM act. Call his office and let him know you disagree. The DCCC noticed and posted a press release as well.

Indivisible members in blue states (and DC) dialed more than 141,000 times using Indivisible's Calls to Kill TrumpCare tool to encourage constituents in key red states to call their Republican senators. That’s over 27,000 minutes of call time.
