Here's what's happening in the 49th District - we're fired up!

This has been a very busy week for activism in CA49! Due to Issa's recent health care vote and Trump's firing of FBI Director Comey, constituents in the 49th District have come out in force to make their voices heard.

Our efforts this week received national and local coverage. See highlights here, with more links below:

CNN report: "Issa's late health care vote riles up California voters"
KGTV coverage of "Repeal and Replace Issa" bridge protest
Protest at RNC meeting in Coronado: CNN live feed and FB post

If you want to read Issa's "rationale" for his health care vote and other pro-Trump views, check out his Op-Ed in the San Diego Union Tribune and his e-newsletter (sign up on his site). Then for a return to sanity, read this article giving Issa a failing report card (written partly in response to a revolting 2018 campaign mailer Issa sent out the day after the AHCA vote).

Thanks to our sister Indivisible group in Sarasota, Florida, for protesting by land and sea when Issa showed up in their district for a fundraiser at a swanky home (instead of coming back to his district to face constituents). Here's the local ABC affiliate coverage: Issa boasts about all the protesters he gets in San Diego!
This Week’s Successes
Monday "Repeal and Replace Issa" Light Brigade
On May 8, Indivisible and other groups lit up an overpass on I-5 in Encinitas to protest Issa's health care vote. Additional press coverage from CBS 8 and Fox 5More photos.

Tuesday Resist Trump Rally
We broke our record again, with 826 resisters showing their #dISSApointment at Issa's Vista office. With our hospital masks and gowns, wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches, we showed Issa how sick he makes us. CNN aired live. Even rain couldn't stop us! More photos here.

Thursday Protest at the RNC Spring Meeting in Coronado
Indivisible and other groups in the area rallied outside the Hotel Del Coronado to demonstrate our resolve to flip the house in 2018. Check out more great press coverage:

Upcoming Events
May 16: Tuesday Rally - Country over Party!
Rally at Issa's office again this Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.! Our theme this week is Country over Party. We're gathering across the street this week, so be careful crossing over. We continue with our disappointment over Issa's health care vote, plus pressing him to lead the call for an independent special prosecutor. 1800 Thibodo Road, #310, Vista. Note: we've been attempting to obtain a permit to allow us to peacefully protest here, but have not succeeded yet due to local Republicans' many roadblocks. We will protest anyway, as is our right, and will continue to try to get the permit.

Save the Date May 31 at 7:00 p.m.: Issa Town Hall in Oceanside. Venue TBD.
Issa announced a tentative date for a Town Hall on May 31 in Oceanside; see the San Diego Union Tribune article. Note that Issa constituents who sign up for his e-newsletter should receive invites. Action Items
Key Actions for this week:
  • Call Issa/Your Rep and Senators to demand a full and independent investigation into Trump's ties to Russia with an independent special prosecutor and select committee.
  • On Thursday, FCC votes to revoke net neutrality: comment on the FCC page to keep net neutrality. If you need tips, see this quick how-to article. Please note that your submission will be public.
Resistance School
This is an excellent online training program for resisting at the federal, state and local levels. The online sessions make it easy for you to participate or study. Highly recommended! Resistance School

Weekly Action Suggestions:
  • If you have 5 minutes, make a phone call.  Don't know who to call? Subscribe to Daily Action to receive instructions for one new action item each day: dailyaction.org
  • If you have 10 minutes, write a postcard to your members of Congress. For their addresses in Washington, look here.
  • If you have 30 minutes, write a letter to the editor. Keep it short and simple and definitely under 150 words. You will need to give your full name, your city, and your phone number. Send letters here:
  • If you have one hour, attend our Tuesday morning rally at Representative Darrell Issa’s office. Issa needs to know that we are watching and we are not going away! For information and to RSVP, click here.
  • And if you have an hour a week to spare, consider volunteering to help Indivisible 49 continue our great work. Information about these opportunities here.
Legislative Update
Now more than ever, we need to pressure Reps and Senators to demand a special prosecutor to be appointed in the Russia/Trump investigation. Our constitution is built on separation of powers and independent departments, not cronies and loyalists to a corrupt leader. Also, this week the FCC is voting Thursday about dismantling net neutrality: the idea that all people should have access to a web that is not separated into different areas depending on how much you pay.
