Here are some thoughts about the Senate Bill introduced in the Senate
1. The tax bill has now become a healthcare bill. As if the original provisions in the tax bill were not bad enough with so many cuts to the middle class and services to our most vulnerable, along with the outlandish tax breaks to the wealthy and large corporations, there are now provisions to cut the ACA individual mandate which will effectively cut healthcare to 13 million which would help the GOP pay for those tax cuts, but jeopardize citizen’s health to do so and destabilize the marketplace. https://www.npr.org/2017/11/15/564272262/republicans-add-aca-mandate-repeal-to-tax-bill Let’s keep letting all our MoCs know that we do not want this bill. The wealthy and large corporations are doing well, unlike some of the middle and lower class this this tax bill will hurt.
2. Another way the tax bill is becoming a healthcare bill is what it does to Medicare. As Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-MA) tweeted, “Taking $25 billion annually from Medicare to pay for tax cuts for wealthy corporations is an insult to every single hardworking American.” https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/11/14/16651184/gop-tax-bill-medicare-cut-paygo We need to use this info when we contact our MoCs. We all know someone using Medicare, as we will one day ourselves. Let’s tell our Medicare stories.
The Senate could vote on a motion to proceed (the pre-vote vote) on Monday and bring the bill to a full floor vote as early as Thursday, November 30. Once it passes the Senate, it’ll go back to the House where they’ll rubber stamp the Senate’s plans and move it onto the President’s desk. Make a phone call. NOW. Start calling your Senators immediately (we’ve set up a toll-free number 1-855-980-2350 to make it even easier for you to make a call!). They need to hear from you. INDIVISIBLE49, 49th DISTRICT ACTION COUNCIL, FLIP THE 49th?
As you know, there are a number of organizations, all of us fighting against the Trump administration's policies and working to replace both Darrell Issa with someone that actually represents us. Here is a brief explanation of how we all fit together and work together.
Flip the 49th!Neighbors in Action is a comprehensive community, political, leadership and
organizing program dedicated to defeating Congressman Darrell Issa and strengthening the growing progressive movement across the 49th Congressional District! They are the boots-on-the-ground effort that was created to raise money for and organize the district wide canvassing, phone banking, voter registration efforts, etc. Flip the 49th will therefore ensure that these efforts are done in a coordinated fashion and ensure no overlap in efforts between different grassroots groups (Indivisible 49, Indivisible Ocean Hills, Together We Will North County, etc) throughout the district allowing everyone to work together and build community.
The 49th District Action Council is a non-partisan, non-hierarchical coalition organizing community power to take back political power across California’s 49th Congressional District and to coordinate activities rather than duplicate our efforts.
1) To continue to raise awareness for the legislative agenda and ask for action of our members which includes phone calls, faxes, emails and attending the weekly rallies and 2) To accomplish our mission to “Get Issa Out” we chose to become the volunteer pool for Flip the 49th to fill its volunteer needs including but not limited to canvassing (strike teams and neighbors in action), phone banking, data entry, etc.
