1800 Thibodo Rd., #310, Vista, CA
Trump and the Republicans have unveiled their tax bill “framework” and guess what? It helps Donald Trump, Darrell Issa, their super rich friends and donors, cabinet and administration members, and big corporations. What a YUGE surprise! Darrell Issa has a reputation of looking out for himself, his own interests, and the interests of wealthy corporations and donors. This Tuesdaylet's show up in numbers to remind Issa that he works for us and we do NOT support tax cuts for the super rich! Please RSVP here.

Thursday, October 5, 5:00 p.m.: Weekly Encinitas Unity Issa Street Corner Protest
At the corner of El Camino Real and Encinitas Blvd. Please join our lively weekly protest and show your support! For more information, check encinitasunity.com.

Legislative Update

Highlights of this week's House voting schedule:

Red Alert!
H.R. 36 – Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act
The legislation would criminalize the performing of an abortion once the fetus is 20 weeks, with penalties including up to 5 years in prison. While this is likely to pass the House (which it did in the past 2 sessions of Congress), its future is more uncertain in the Senate. “Not only is the basis for H.R. 36 scientifically disputed, the bill disregards women’s health and rights, the role doctors play in their patients’ health care decisions, and the Constitution.” So far Issa is not one of the 170 cosponsors, but Duncan Hunter is!
* Action: Call Issa, (as well as your Senators), let them know where you stand!

H.Con.Res. 71 – Establishing the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2018 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2019 through 2027
A very right-wing, partisan attempt to balance the budget in 10 years, while directing committees to find $203 billion in mandatory spending savings (read: cuts to social service programs!) Oppose!!

H.R. 2408 – Protecting Girls’ Access to Education in Vulnerable Settings Act
This bill urges the consideration of the educational needs of vulnerable women and girls in designing, implementing, and evaluating U.S. foreign assistance policies and programs. Support!

Los Angeles Times article: Trump's tax plan could hit Southern California hard. Will GOP House members here support it?
46% of the filers in Issa's district use the SALT deduction, which the GOP tax 'plan' aims to eliminate. Will Issa support this - seeing as most of his constituents might not know this is part of the current plan?
