Congress: Week of June 12th

Legislative Briefing for Week of 6.12.17

In Congress This Week:

House- Votes all week! Monday: HR 338 To promote a “21st-century” energy and manufacturing workforce. (read: support renewable energy AND coal.) along with a series of hydroelectric bills. For the rest of the week, votes expected on bills related to veteran health insurance, health-related lawsuits, and COBRA coverage. See full schedule here.

Senate- Health care bill is on the fast track. One area currently being engineered is cost ratio for younger vs. older adults. Also, there are battles being fought about attaching abortion provisions to the bill. This article provides a good summary of that issue as well as rules guiding the bill as it goes through the Senate.

Issa’s activities: (Local section)

In the News: 6/6- Issa is, no surprise, against CA single-payer health bill. 6/8 - Issa voted for HR 10, the “Financial CHOICE Act,” which passed with a party-line vote. His press release touts the despicable decision as a success: “The Financial CHOICE Act will restore sanity to our financial sector and curbs Dodd-Frank regulatory overreach which has become an enormous barrier to economic recovery. Dodd-Frank has allowed big banks to grow bigger, small banks to become fewer and failed to make our financial sector any safer.” 6/9- Issa posts a graph on FB showing the number of House passed bills to date-158-and stating: “Despite what the media says, the Republican-led House has been the most productive in the modern era.” (If by “productive” you mean sending bills to die in the Senate, well…)
