Tuesday Rally at Issa's Vista Office - American Unity

Our theme this week is American Unity. Transgender in the militarly. DACA. Health care for all. There are so many ways we are being divided. Let's celebrate our unity.

Retired Brigadier General Brahms who spoke at our rally 2 weeks ago will be back again tomorrow.

Last Tuesday we collected donations for an upgrade to our speaker system. Someone pointed out that the people who can't hear with our current speakers didn't hear that announcement! So if you would like to contribute, stop by the sign-in table.

This Tuesday we are collecting food donations for hungry kids in Vista. We are partnering with our friends in Wagon Circle and Vista Teen Outreach. If you cannot come to the rally and want to contribute, send Ellen an email and she'll arrange to meet you/pick up your donation. Or if you'd rather make a cash donation, you can click HERE to get to the Wagon Circle website. Let them know you are an Issa rally participant!

Here's what the food pantry needs:
Top Ramen, cup o’noodles
Rice, pasta, rice a roni
Pasta with sauce
Canned soups, stew, beans
Spaghetti o’s
Mac & cheese
Peanut butter and jelly
Cheese/peanut butter crackers
Granola bars, fruit bars
Trail mix, beef jerky
Fruit snacks, fruit cups
Cereal/oatmeal packets

PLEASE:
No glass
No expired items
Nothing over 16oz

DACA
As you know, Trump is scheduled to make an announcement about DACA sometime on Tuesday. If he cancels the program, there are 2 rallies to attend. The biggest one is at the County Admin Building at 6pm. If you can't make it downtown, go to North County Westfield Mall (North County Fair) in Escondido at 6pm.

DETAILS

  1. As you know, we are in front of Issa's building. We ask you to respect the property owner and stay off the grass.
  2. It won't be as hot in Vista on Tuesday, but we still need to be cautious. Please bring water. We'll have some if you forget, along with misters/sprayers and cold towels.
  3. There are lots of people who help out at our rallies. Please take a minute and say thanks to them 😄
  4. We will again have legal observers at this rally. They are there to observe, not interact with us. Please respect that.
  5. Please avoid going out into the street to take pictures. We do have some photographers who may be in the street, but please don't do it yourselves. You can find their photos here.

PARKING

  1. Pastor Matthew Palm of Hope Church at 1755 Thibodo Rd offers the parking lot to promote public safety (he recognizes the danger of people parking illegally on Thibodo Rd), and emphasized that the church does not take sides in politics.
  2. If you are not parking at the church, please park on the street vs Issa's parking lot.
  3. If you park on Thibodo Rd, be sure your car is not blocking the traffic lane. If you do, you'll probably get a ticket.

Tuesday Rally at Issa's Vista Office - Protect DACA

To appease his base, 45 has decided to go after DACA. Here is a great article frrom the Washington Post about one of the reasons why: 45 has "overpromised his base"--and is looking for easy ways to appease them. Hopefully you can read the article HERE. (You may need to subscribe to WaPo to see it.)

But here's the important part of the article for us:
"SOME REPUBLICANS URGE TRUMP TO KEEP DACA: A group of California Republicans in the House sent a letter to Trump, urging him to keep protections in place for those brought here as children."
Read the letter--you'll see that Issa is not one of the signers! I just can't figure out why Issa continues to support a losing presidency. Why is he not representing ALL of us?

So bring your signs, your energy and your friends!

We were 356 strong last week. Issa is still in town--let's show him what we stand for!

AVOID THE COUNTER-PROTESTERS - Please read this! I don't know if they are coming again this week. I'm asking that you do NOT stand with them. Last week, the people who mixed with the counter-protesters were counted with them. While there were only about a dozen, maybe 20 of them, the press reported there were 50. That's because they counted our people in with theirs. It's important that we keep separate from them for both safety reasons and so people can see that they really are a pitifully small group of people.

Notes about our rallies:

  1. Please bring sunscreen, water, a fan or umbrella, and even a small spray bottle so you can mist yourself and your neighbors.
  2. Please stay off the grass! It is private property and we don't want you to get a ticket for trespassing :(
  3. We will have legal observers at this rally and at all future rallies. They are there to observe, not interact with us. Please respect that.
  4. If you have mobility challenges, please pull into Issa's parking lot. We have parking permits for you. Look for a Peace Patrol volunteer with a yellow vest.

Applegate, Kerr and Levin CD49 Candidate Forum

  • 1234 North Santa Fe Avenue Vista, CA, 92083 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Hosted by the  Democratic Club of Vista

Meet the 3 Democrats; Doug Applegate, Paul Kerr and Mike Levin, who are going to put Issa out of a job. We will have a moderator from The League of Women Voters ask questions submitted by the community. Make sure that you sign up for a ticket via the Eventbrite link!

This is the structure for the Q&A:

1. In a randomly determined order, each candidate will be given 2 minutes to make an opening statement.

2. The LWV moderator will ask questions selected from written questions submitted by the audience. The questions will be screened to avoid duplication, to insure a range of topics and issues, and to avoid questions that are not pertinent to the issues. The candidates will have one minute each to respond to each question. If a question is directed toward one candidate, he/she will answer first and the others will be allowed equal time to speak if they wish.

3. Each candidate will make a closing statement of no more than 1 minute.

Tuesday Rally at Issa's Vista Office - Just Say No to 45's Budget

Just Say No to Trump's Shameful Budget is the theme for this rally. 45's budget wants to take money away from important areas like public education, the environment, immigration, healthcare, social services, and even world diplomacy to pay for a border wall, immigration enforcement/ICE, and a huge tax cut for the wealthy. It's a budget of disgraceful "values" and one that Darrell Issa must not support!

In Issa's newsletter last week, he said he is getting to work on tax reform. Let's show up in numbers to remind Issa that he works for us and we do NOT support 45's budget and tax cut for the rich! Bring your signs, your friends, and your energy!

Some last minute details about the rally:

  1. Please bring sunscreen, water, a fan or umbrella, and even a small spray bottle so you can mist yourself and your neighbors.

Tuesday Rally at Issa's Vista Office - "Trump's terrible week--and Issa still loves him!"

Hooray! We had success last week with the health care bill--and Trump had a terrible week. Yet Issa still defends him! See these articles:
http://www.bostonherald.com/  You notice that Issa does this interview in Boston. He wouldn't dare say this in the San Diego media!

And in this one, Issa says that Trump is working "triple time." Really??
http://video.foxnews.com

So let's show up to celebrate AND to remind Issa that he should be a Watch Dog--not a Lap Dog!  Bring your signs, your friends, and your energy!

Indivisible Day of Action - #KillTheBill

On Tuesday, July 18th, our whole national network will be showing up together to say that TrumpCare would hurt our friends, our families, and our country--and we'll remember this vote. Join us as we show constituent power and support Senators Feinstein and Harris as they continue the fight against the repeal of the ACA.

We know you are exhausted! We are all are. But this is the time that we have to stand up and fight for ALL which includes CHILDREN, SENIORS, POOR and the DISABLED. OUR FINAL BIG PUSH: Every Indivisible Chapter in the nation, along with other progressive groups, will be rallying at every Senate District Office in every state.

Plans are still in development, but we will meet outside of Feinstein's office from noon to 12:30ish, then walk over to Harris' office. We will be inviting the staff of Feinstein and Harris to come outside to hear from constituents about the dire effects of this heartless health care bill.

Bring your signs, personal health care stories, American flags, and your voices! Constituent comment forms will be available to fill out while we are there. However, if you'd like to write one up in advance please include your name, address with ZIP code, phone, and email info, along with your comments and concerns. Thank you!!

Tuesday Rally 10:00 a.m. - "Happy Birthday, Medicare and Medicaid!"

Our rallies will begin at the regular time - 10:00 AM until further notice.

We will be joined by folks from the California Alliance for Retired Americans, an Organization that advocates with and for retired people, primarily around health care issues. Every year, their organization throws birthday parties to celebrate Medicare and Medicaid, and this time they're bringing the party to the sidewalk with us--complete with a big card and a cake. We know how much Mr. Issa likes cake!

You will get to hear some of their personal stories about Medicare and Medicaid. Please help me welcome them!

Bust out your health care signs and t-shirts. The timing couldn't be better for us to celebrate the success of Medicare and Medicaid, with the Senate poised to try again next week to pass a repeal of the ACA. Let's send a message to Mr. Issa that we remember his shameful vote in the House, and we will continue to hold him accountable for putting tens of thousands of constituents at risk with that vote.
