Weekly Rally at Issa's Vista Office - I Need a Hero!

  • 1800 Thibodo Rd., #310 Vista, CA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

At this week’s rally, we will have a special guest who is calling for impeachment: Tom Steyer! He is the California billionaire and activist who spent his own $10 million on the impeachment ad we have been seeing on TV lately. You can view the ad and sign the impeachment petition at www.needtoimpeach.com. It already has well over half a million signatures! Please be sure to come hear Tom speak!

We will also have special Halloween guests – US! Our costume theme is “I Need a Hero” so come dressed up as your favorite defender/icon of truth, justice, freedom, and democracy. There are so many to choose from like the Statue of Liberty, Wonder Woman, Rachel Maddow, Robert Mueller, the Scales of Justice, Abe Lincoln, etc. Costumes are, of course, not required so be sure to still come for the fun even if you don’t plan to dress up! Be creative!

With the Special Counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, Trump/Russia collusion, obstruction of justice, money laundering, and other potential crimes, there is so much at stake in the meantime. We need Robert Mueller to please, PLEASE, hurry!

Please RSVP here.

Weekly Rally at Issa's Vista Office - It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's the Resistance!

  • 1800 Thibodo Rd., #310 Vista, CA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We have some special "guests" joining us. District 49 is the proud new owner of the 20-foot Trump chicken! It was donated to us by the Not One Penny campaign. So Donnie the Chicken will join us at the rally--with a special add-on designed by us ;)

But it gets better. We'll have a banner plane flying overhead for much of the rally, with a message for Issa.

So join us on Tuesday. Bring your friends, your signs and your energy!

DETAILS

  1. As you know, we are in front of Issa's building. We ask you to respect the property owner and stay off the grass.
  2. It won't be as hot in Vista on Tuesday, but we still need to be cautious. Please bring water. We'll have some if you forget, along with misters/sprayers and cold towels.
  3. There are lots of people who help out at our rallies. Please take a minute and say thanks to them 😄
  4. We will again have legal observers at this rally. They are there to observe, not interact with us. Please respect that.
  5. Please avoid going out into the street to take pictures. We do have some photographers who may be in the street, but please don't do it yourselves. You can find their photos here.

PARKING

  1. Pastor Matthew Palm of Hope Church at 1755 Thibodo Rd offers the parking lot to promote public safety (he recognizes the danger of people parking illegally on Thibodo Rd), and emphasized that the church does not take sides in politics.
  2. If you are not parking at the church, please park on the street vs Issa's parking lot.
  3. If you park on Thibodo Rd, be sure your car is not blocking the traffic lane. If you do, you'll probably get a ticket.

Weekly Rally at Issa's Vista Office - Common-Sense Gun Control NOW!

  • 1800 Thibodo Rd., #310 Vista, CA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

A week has gone by since the Las Vegas shooting and we continue to be profoundly saddened by that event. We continue to be shocked and disgusted by the sheer number of gun murders in our country. We continue to be deeply troubled and frustrated by the lack of movement on much-needed, common sense gun control legislation, which the overwhelming majority of Americans--including responsible gun owners--want to see enacted.

So, this week, we have decided to continue our call and rally once again for common-sense gun control legislation. Especially because Republicans, including Darrell Issa and Donald Trump, say it's too soon to talk about gun control. If not now, when?? Is it too soon to talk about airline safety after a plane crash, installing alarms after a burglary, tracking down terrorists cells after an attack? For Darrell Issa, it's too soon because he has taken $30k in blood money from the NRA. Darrell Issa needs to do his job and address it with sensible legislative solutions that can actually help his constituents and all Americans. This Tuesdaylet's show up in numbers to remind Issa that he works for us and we want to see Congress pass common-sense gun control legislation!

Rapid Response to Medicaid and Medicare Cuts

  • 1800 Thibodo Road, #310 Vista, CA 92081 (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Although repeal of the Affordable Care Act has failed, Republicans in Congress will once again try to dismantle the ACA and Medicaid as part of the House Budget Resolution that Republican Speaker Paul Ryan will bring to a floor vote this week.

Constituents of California’s 49th Congressional District are responding with a day of action on Thursday, Oct. 4 led by Fight4OurHealth against this latest Republican effort to strip health care from millions of Americans. Constituents will gather outside Darrell Issa’s district office for a protest that urges Rep. Darrell Issa to reject proposals that will gut life-saving Medicaid for 74 million working families, privatize Medicare for seniors, and starve state budgets to pay for tax breaks for big corporations and the rich.

Rep. Darrell Issa voted to support Republican-led bills to repeal the Affordable Care Act and radically restructure Medicaid. This week, He will vote on a federal budget resolution that cuts $1.5 trillion from Medicaid and other healthcare programs, includes adoption of the ACA repeal bill passed by Republican House members earlier this year, and proposes a $487 billion cut to Medicare for seniors. The bill also includes billions in tax breaks for wealthy households and large corporations.

Constituents will call on Rep. Darrell Issa to reject these massive cuts to healthcare and tax giveaways to the rich and corporations paid for with cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and other services in the federal budget.

Join Fight4OurHealth as we protest the GOP budget that will GUT Medicare and Medicaid. We will let Rep. Issa know that HIS constituents depend on Medicare and Medicaid, and any cuts to these programs signals that he is not fit to lead his district. For any questions, please contact Nelson Goins: 909-838-1662

Weekly Rally at Issa's Vista Office - NOT ONE PENNY

  • 1800 Thibodo Rd., #310 Vista, CA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Trump and the Republicans have unveiled their tax bill “framework” and guess what? It helps Donald Trump, Darrell Issa, their super rich friends and donors, cabinet/administration members, and big corporations. What a YUGE surprise!

Republicans, including Issa, want you to believe this “framework” is a tax cut for the middle class. But that is another big league lie.

This bill:

  • eliminates the “death tax” - applies to estates valued over $5.5 million;
  • eliminates the Alternative Minimum Tax (“AMT”) - applies to those earning between $200K and $1mm;
  • reduces the marginal income tax rate from 39.6% to 35% for top earners;
  • reduces the “pass-through” rate from 39.6% to 25% - only 4% of business owners would see any benefit;
  • reduces the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20% - helps big business and investors.

Get the picture?

https://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2017-09-28/working-families-lose-and-donald-trump-wins-in-gop-tax-reform

This tax bill will soon be going to the House even though:

  • 73% of Americans say the current tax system favors the wealthy;
  • 67% of Americans believe corporations pay too little in taxes;
  • 63% of Americans favor increasing taxes on the wealthy and large corporations.

Darrell Issa, the wealthiest member of Congress, has sided with Trump 98% of the time, even at the expense of his own constituents.

Darrell Issa voted yes on Trump”care” – a vote to rip healthcare away from 37,000 constituents and raise health care costs - to give tax cuts to the super rich.

Darrell Issa has a reputation of looking out for himself, his own interests, and the interests of wealthy corporations and donors.

Darrell Issa needs to do his job, represent his constituents, and vote NO!
This Tuesdaylet's show up in numbers to remind Issa that he works for us and we do NOT support tax cuts for the super rich!

So join us on Tuesday. Bring your friends, your signs and your energy!

Weekly Rally at Issa's Vista Office - Money, Money, Money

  • 1800 Thibodo Rd., #310 Vista, CA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Money. The involvement of money in influencing the Graham-Cassidy health care bill, tax cuts for the rich, special interest groups and lobbies. I'm sick of it all. I am sick and tired of money being so blatantly used to buy votes in Congress and to take needed services away from people who need them.

And while we all have been working on the Graham-Cassidy health care bill, next week the GOP is poised to announce a $1.5 TRILLION tax cut bill under budget reconciliation.

So let's tell Darrell Issa that we want him to vote for bills that work for his constituents--not for bills that line his pockets and those of his super-rich friends.

Tuesday Rally at Issa's Vista Office - American Unity

Our theme this week is American Unity. Transgender in the militarly. DACA. Health care for all. There are so many ways we are being divided. Let's celebrate our unity.

Retired Brigadier General Brahms who spoke at our rally 2 weeks ago will be back again tomorrow.

Last Tuesday we collected donations for an upgrade to our speaker system. Someone pointed out that the people who can't hear with our current speakers didn't hear that announcement! So if you would like to contribute, stop by the sign-in table.

This Tuesday we are collecting food donations for hungry kids in Vista. We are partnering with our friends in Wagon Circle and Vista Teen Outreach. If you cannot come to the rally and want to contribute, send Ellen an email and she'll arrange to meet you/pick up your donation. Or if you'd rather make a cash donation, you can click HERE to get to the Wagon Circle website. Let them know you are an Issa rally participant!

Here's what the food pantry needs:
Top Ramen, cup o’noodles
Rice, pasta, rice a roni
Pasta with sauce
Canned soups, stew, beans
Spaghetti o’s
Mac & cheese
Peanut butter and jelly
Cheese/peanut butter crackers
Granola bars, fruit bars
Trail mix, beef jerky
Fruit snacks, fruit cups
Cereal/oatmeal packets

DACA
As you know, Trump is scheduled to make an announcement about DACA sometime on Tuesday. If he cancels the program, there are 2 rallies to attend. The biggest one is at the County Admin Building at 6pm. If you can't make it downtown, go to North County Westfield Mall (North County Fair) in Escondido at 6pm.
